Shade Podcast is back!

Through the month of December I will be exploring the act of creation, as a communing of spirits. I’ve invited friends to be in conversation with me about their creative rituals, devotions and connective gestures of the immaterial.

Inspired by the Black radical tradition of harmony between the visual and lyrical, we will hear about the sounds and supra-personal presences felt by the artists as they work.

When thinking about this series I looked to the transportational nature of Ming Smith’s photography:

“If people could feel what I feel when I hear a Billie Holiday song—that’s what I would want them to feel when they look at my work.”

Listen to Ming Smith on Shade Podcast here.

Here are the two books that I have ordered as my companions for this series.
