The thing about Frieze, again
On disabled access, my longing for photography and how marginalised artists are required to perform for the market
One in seven people in the world is disabled. None of them work in the arts.
Or so it seemed this week. I am not going to list the ways in which Frieze is inaccessible for physically challenged visitors, because this time last year I wrote a post on it. I won’t mention the fiscally challenged art workers who have limited access, because you know the drill. You know the one about the poor artist and the working class artist and the women artists. There are self appointed, and at times ill informed art critics profiteering from telling you what you know about how our sector fails us—it’s a good schtick but talking about the marginalised isn’t the same as advocating for them.
